Fimble winter is here which means that Ragnarok is coming. The long awaited sequel to God of War 2018 has arrived and brings with it the entire Norse pantheon as well as each of its nine realms. God of War 2018 left me with many, many questions and a longing for more so strong, I played it at least 10 times, all to 100% completion. After waiting the eight hours it took to download, I booted up God of War Ragnarok and boy did this deliver on all of its hype.
After initiating Fimbel winter at the end of the last game, Kratos and Atreus spend the next three years surviving the mythical cold. During that time, they acquire some wolves which help them get around the frozen landscape. Ragnarok picks up at the end of Fimbel Winter with the arrival of Thor, who is not too happy with the things Kratos has done. We learn that Atreus has been sneaking off to try to find Tyr before having an epic one on one clash with Thor that reminds you, this is a God of War game. Upon confronting Atreus he confirms that he has been searching for Tyr as he believes Tyr is the key to finding the answers he has been searching for.
When I first played God of War Ragnarok, I wasn’t too sure about the direction the game was heading. I think I had built up too many expectations that were just unrealistic or flat out wrong. But the further I got, the more my expectations were shattered and I felt that what we were presented with was actually way better than anything I could have imagined.
No gripes this time - God of War Ragnarok improves on and expands everything that was great about the first game. If I had to choose something to be disappointed about, it would be that I now have so many more questions.
God of War Ragnarok is an amazing game. It’s my Game Of The Year 2022 and between the two games, I believe it’s a story that everyone should experience.
