Playstation has a number of flagship characters. There’s Crash Bandicoot, Ratchet and Clank, Jak and Daxter, but none more iconic than Kratos, The God Of War. We were under the impression that Kratos’ story was finished. After destroying the Greek Pantheon there didn’t seem much more Kratos could do. But in 2016 we got a new story set after the events of the Greek story. A new story that would go on to win Game of the Year.

The new story is set in the Norse mythology and follows an older Kratos and his son Atreus as they deal with the recent event of the mothers death. The link holding their relationship together has shattered and they must forge a new one to survive. Kratos has chosen to keep his past to himself, a choice that would constantly be tested as Atreus pulls further and further away from his dishonesty. All of this becomes even more complicated by the arrival of one of the gods seemingly looking for Kratos.

God of War was the first game I platinumed and beat on every difficulty. This game was so good every time I finished it I had to start again because I just hadn’t had enough. I loved this game, there aren’t very many games that get my heart racing the way God of War does. The Valkyrie fights are some of the hardest fights in gaming and Queen Valkyrie made me feel like I was going to have a heart attack. I even beat the game on it’s hardest difficulty, Give Me God Of War. In this difficulty enemies would level up during battle making them stronger and sturdier so the longer a battle goes for the harder it becomes. I had to take a break during the final boss because I was going to explode from rage and frustration. A week later I picked it up again and finally beat the game. Doing the hardest difficulty taught me about my skill level with gaming and I realised NOTHING was too hard for me.
