The original Destroy All Humans 2 was one of my favourite PS2 games. Crypto’s self aware humour was really funny and I liked the idea of an alien protecting the world while simultaneously being hunted down by it. It’s also the only game I completed on co-op mode. Me and my friend had lots of fun with the slingshot mechanic that would teleport one character to the other if they got too far apart. It seemed to be random who the game would prioritize so we would try sabotage each other. So when the first Destroy All Humans got a remake it was only a matter of time until the sequel got one too.

Destroy All Humans 2 and it’s remake is a sequel to Destroy all Humans in Cryptospiridium, which an alien from Planet Furon invades Earth and ends with him becoming President Of The United States. I think, I haven’t played it yet. The sequel follows Crypto during the 70’s. While he dances with the hippies in the park, The KGB blow up the mothership in Earth’s orbit killing the scientist Orthopox and scattering weapons and artifacts all over the world. Crypto discovers Pox survived in a hologram unit and together discover a plot that spans far beyond The KGB.

Reprobed was a refreshing and fun way to revisit the world of DAH2. The complete rebuild of the maps made visiting each area both nostalgic and new. I especially liked the fully animated cutscenes that were added to give more depth. However my experience with the remake has been soured by multiple technical issues. My game just kept crashing. It was pretty obvious when it was going to happen, the framerate would take a dive and Crypto would stop interacting with objects and then CRASH. You could get to an autosave point before the game fully crashed and then you could just pick up where you were interrupted. But there were a few times where I made a load of progress only to crash and have the entire session disappear. They have updated the game which made it better but I still have the problem a lot.

To be honest Destroy All Humans 2 is a great game and if they fix the crashing issue, the remake will be great too. Until then It’s more frustrating than fun.
